Gait Analysis

At Run North West we offer
free in-store and online gait analysis.

Appointments aren't essential, if you would prefer to make an appointments for a specific day/time slot in advance.

If you are unable to make it to our store and wish to use our online gait analysis service, keep reading 👇🏼 for more information on how to send us your footage.

Gait analysis is very important as it will reduce your risk of common running injuries. Most runners will present after a short 30 second treadmill analysis as either needing a support or neutral running shoe. Our experienced team will then advise you on which shoes will work best for you. Additionally the fit and feel of a shoe is crucial which is why trying shoes on is so important in finding the right match for you.

Our team is made up of experienced runners who compete at various levels but all have one thing in common, a love and passion for running and a desire to contribute and improve the local running community, encouraging many first time runners through our events and retail store.

We offer an extensive range of running trainers, performance clothing and accessories with complimentary gait analysis available to help you pick out the
best running shoe for your needs.

Instructions

Step 1

Ensure that your ankles are visible, wear shorts or roll your trousers mid-way up. Ensure your socks are smooth i.e. no gather points.

Place a camera around 15 inches behind the treadmill and approximately 5 inches off the ground. If you don’t have a tripod try improvising with a stack of books or ask a friend to help you, you can always return the favour for them! Please try and wear neutral shoes for the gait analysis as this will help our team to accurately read your gait. Record at least 20-seconds of you running in the centre of the screen.

The pictures below (click to zoon) show the ideal distance and height of your video. If you do not have access to a treadmill then please ask a friend to record you running away from camera three times. Have the camera as low as possible in the same way as the treadmill footage. Try to mimic the same pace as you do outdoors when running on the treadmill. Please submit your video in one of the following file formats, avi. mov. mpeg. or wmv, If your file size is to large please email us your video via an online file transferring site such as www.wetransfer.com to run@runnorthwest.co.uk

Step 2

When emailing your video please let us know a little more about your running history and the type of running you’re planning on doing. This isn’t because we’re being nosy; it will just help our team fit you into the best pair of trainers. The email contact form contains some questions, but feel free to add any other information, which you think might be relevant.

Step 3

Once we’ve received your video our team of experts will analyse the footage and assess your gait to measure your level of pronation and identify any biomechanical inefficiencies. We slow the footage down and analyse it frame by frame to determine if you’re an overpronator, a neutral runner or if you underpronate.

Step 4

Having assessed the footage our team will then feedback their findings, including an analysis of your gait along with recommendations as to the best type of running shoe for your gait and any other relevant feedback. If you’d like to chat to us further regarding your assessment you can chat to us in store on 01625 528887.

Step 5

Our online gait analysis service is solely at your own risk. All advice from Run North West is intended as a guide only.

In no event will we be liable for any loss or damage in connection with the use of this service.

If in doubt please consult your GP before taking part in any exercise and the use of a treadmill and setting up a camera behind the treadmill should be done in a safe manor and if applicable with consideration to other gym users.
