We are partnering with The Christie charity and hope lots of our runners will support this fantastic cause.

Getting to Wilmslow
Directions from the North – Take the M56 from M6 or M60, then leave at junction 6 and take A538 to Wilmslow. Directions from the South – Leave the M6 at junction 17; take the. A534 to Congleton and then the A34 to Wilmslow along the Alderley Edge Bypass (our July 10k route)
If you’re traveling into Wilmslow along the A34 from either direction we recommend parking at our additional parking facility Royal London (directions below) to avoid any road closures or congestion before & after.
Please arrive early to avoid any congestion. We recommend being in the start area no later than 45 minutes before the start of the race.
We wish to make every possible effort to provide easy, safe and fast parking. With over 3000 entries it is important for us to request that if you are driving then you arrive with plenty of time to spare. Most of the Wilmslow cafes are open, some specially for the race, or you can just relax either at our HQ or in your car!
Car Parking is available throughout Wilmslow, with the town centre car parks (excluding Waitrose & the train station) free to runners on a Sunday. Marshals will be available on the event day to assist with parking. We have adequate parking available with approximately 1200 car park spaces in Wilmslow town centre and a further 800 at Royal London. You then also have a large amount of on street parking options with single yellow line areas also being free to use on Sundays but please be considerate for our local residents.
Please also note that the start area of approximately 200 metres will close for traffic at 8.30am. This is the area from the traffic lights at the Water Lane/ Alderley Road junction, to the side road at the end of Hoopers called South Road. Water Lane is not affected and you can still turn left at the Water Lane junction when approaching from the M56. Whilst this does not restrict any of our parking options, depending on your route into Wilmslow it may cause some disruption and we strongly advise as many participants as possible to be parked up by 8.30am. Clearly any event that experiences too many cars arriving at once will suffer challenges however we have many different car parks for this race which will alleviate congestion providing you do not leave your arrival until the last minute. If all the town centre car parks fill up completely then you will be guided to side roads or to Royal London. Royal London is a 10-minute walk to the race start.
Some runners may prefer to park nearer to the finish area and make the 15-minute walk to the town centre start. Parking here is more limited but the local residential areas including Kings Road and Gorsey Road, have lots of options with wide residential streets and no parking restrictions. Please be considerate to local residents and please do not park in the Boddington Arms car park as we are using this area for our shuttle bus service.
Royal London have very kindly provided the use of their car parking facilities, for those of you that raced the Bypass 10k in the summer you will be familiar with this car park. The car park is on Alderley Road Postcode: SK9 1PF, which is a 10-minute walk to the start. This car park is a little further to the start however with an entry of over 3000, you will avoid any possible congestion by parking here. Access this car park from the A34 roundabout for Alderley Road or follow our signs for Royal London.
Race Information & Race HQ
The postcode for the Wilmslow leisure centre is SK9 1BU open from 7:30am. We are once again utilising the main hall of Wilmslow Leisure Centre for the race HQ. Whilst your race numbers have been posted out this year for your convenience, we will still be delighted to welcome you at our HQ pre & post race with lots going on including a free prize raffle for Run North West goodies based on your runner number.
An enquiry desk will be available for any lost numbers, transfer enquiries and last minute questions. We will not have any entry on the day availability.
Any pre purchased merchandise and souvenirs can be collected before or after the race and the shop will be open from 7.30am until 12.45pm. You can also purchase our official race merchandise on the day, our hoodies are £26 and depending on the weather we anticipate our exclusive £7 beanie hats to be popular! Payments will be by cash or card.
Changing, Baggage & Toilet Facilities
The Leisure centre has a good quantity of toilets and we have ordered an additional 50 portable toilets as we appreciate how frustrating the toilet queue can be on race morning!! The portable toilets will be spread between the Leisure centre and near to the start. A few toilets will also be available at the finish.
Refreshments can be purchased at the Leisure Centre cafe or at one of the many town centre coffee shops including Costa, Starbucks, Nero & Rise.
Post race showers are available free of charge at the Leisure Centre.
A Bag drop facility is available at the Leisure Centre from 8.15am Run North West cannot be held responsible for the loss or theft of any bags. Bags are left at the owners risk, for your own reassurance they will be looked after by one of our event volunteers at all times.
A team of sports massage therapists will be on hand for pre & post massage. The fee is just a minimum £5 donation to the Christie.
The start area is in the centre of town but there are lots of areas available for warming up, please ensure you stay in traffic free areas. We will also be providing a mass group warm up at the start!!
With unpredictable weather in late November we recommend that if you are being met at the finish to ask for a spare warm top! We are providing foil blankets at the finish in case of extreme weather. You can also leave spare kit at our race HQ bag drop.
Personal Music Players
We strongly advise against the use of personal music players or headphones during the race, which can restrict your ability to hear safety instructions from marshals or unexpected events such as a car accidentally pulling onto the course.
Start Area & Pacers
At the start area you will be greeted by music to help you get in the mood, our race commentators plus a special warm up routine.
Please note that any clothing discarded at the start will be removed and disposed of so please chose an old garment if you wish to discard of anything here.
As at the Alderley Edge Bypass 10k, we have once again organised pacemakers for those wishing to aim for a particular time. Time boards will be positioned along the start line area to guide you into the correct starting area. Please try to be honest & realistic as if you start too far up the field then this can cause the flow of runners to slow at certain pinch points over the first few kilometres. Pacers will start the race alongside these boards and will be running 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75 minutes. Pacemakers will be clearly visible on the day for your convenience with red pacer t-shirts and signs displaying their appropriate pace times.
Again please try to position yourself appropriate to your finish time level. The race is chip timed, so your result will display your actual time as you cross the start.
The mass run will start at 9.30 with our wheelchair competitors starting at 9.20. It will take a few minutes for you all to cross the start line so please again bear in mind that your chip timed result is based on when you cross the start line.
Spectators – Start & Finish
A complimentary shuttle service will operate to take spectators between the start and finish. This will be available straight after the start and will be parked on Water Lane. Depending on the weather and your participants pace, you may prefer the 15-minute walk from the start to the finish.
At the finish we will be operating a barrier system for spectators to pass through the finish & spectate either before or after the finish. We also recommend that you consider wearing good walking shoes and utilise the un-adopted road (Sandy Lane), which runs from just before the Texaco petrol station and comes out 100 metres before the race finish on Mobberley Road (see map) This way you can avoid the busy finish area and watch the race end as the view at this point takes in the final 400 metres. Your participant can then either walk back up from the finish to meet you or meet you or better still for your convenience arrange to meet at the Boddington Arms alleviating the crowds in the finish area.
Our route is unchanged from last year offering runners the perfect mix of flat running, scenery and with it’s town centre location, a fantastic atmosphere to help you enjoy your 10k experience. The course is fully closed to all traffic at all times during the event.
The course starts in Wilmslow town centre outside Hoopers and Pizza Express, heading South West along Knutsford Road, passing through the leafy residential streets of Wilmslow, with a lightening quick first 5k setting you up perfectly for a personal best attempt.
The rural section of the course offers excellent scenery of the Cheshire Countryside before winding its way back to the finish on Mobberly Road with just one short hill within the 8th km to test your strength. The final 1km takes in the same finishing route as the popular Wilmslow Half Marathon with 400m and 200m to go signs in place helping you time that sprint finish to perfection!
Please keep moving forwards at the finish away from the finish line to allow space for participants finishing behind you. Water & then our exclusive gym bag will be handed to you. This will contain your bespoke and well-earned finisher medal plus some snacks to refuel you. Foil blankets will also be available in case of a particularly cold or wet day.
As the finish area has limited space please try to keep moving down and making your way out. You then have the option of walking or a recovery jog back to Wilmslow town centre (10 to 15 minutes) or taking the free shuttle buses back to town centre & also to Royal London. Our marshals will guide you here..
The Boddington Arms near to the finish have very kindly offered a special bacon sandwich and coffee for just £5 to runners and spectators as well as allowing the use of their car park for the shuttle bus facility back to Wilmslow.
A complimentary shuttle service will operate to offer to take spectators between the start and finish as well as giving the option of taking runners back to the start after you finish. Alternatively the start area is one mile back to the town centre and can be jogged in 10 minutes or walked in 15 minutes. Please keep to the pavement at all times for your own safety.
Race Numbers & Chip Timing
Please attach your number to the front of your vest and please do not fold, cut, or deface it in anyway. The timing chip is attached to the back of your number and is detected when you cross the start, 5km halfway point and the finish. Please do not run around the outside of the mat area or your time will not be recorded. The tags are disposable so you do not have to return them if you do not take part.
Please do not exchange your number with any other person without informing race officials before the day as this can cause problems with the results as well as potential health & safety concerns.
Once again all runners who have provided a mobile telephone number will receive both their official race time and position from Nifty Entries our race partner, usually within minutes of finishing. Race results will also be posted as soon as the race is completed at www.niftyentries.com/results and later that day on our event website.
We are also pleased to welcome back Mick Hall photographs who are providing free to download race photography on the day, so don’t forget to smile! We aim to post a selection of photographs on our website and Facebook pages as soon as we have them.
General Health & Safety
Participant, spectator and volunteer safety is of paramount importance to us all. We kindly ask you observe traffic regulations and marshal instructions on the day of the event.
For your safety we will have volunteer marshals at every km point and marshals at all road junctions on the course, as well as traffic management personnel at major junctions.
Marshals will also be present to assist with parking on the day both in the town centre and Royal London. Marshals will also guide you back to Wilmslow town centre from the finish. When walking to and from the start & finish please keep to the pavements and crossing points whenever possible, as road closures won’t be in place at this time. The Altrincham Road from the finish area to the town centre is a busy road so please exercise normal awareness when walking back.
You can find further details along with our FAQ section and event safety procedures here.
We will provide water just after the 5km point of the run in sports cap 330ml bottles as well as at the finish. Please try to dispense of these into the bins provided or at the finish. Our wonderful volunteers will ensure that the course is litter free afterwards. We will also dispense of these bottles correctly for recycling purposes.
We have a legal road closure permitted by Cheshire East Council from 8am until 12 noon however, we will endeavor to close each road for as short a period of time as possible to minimise disruption. As the last runner passes through each section of the course we will re-open the road behind with approximate timings as follows;
Alderley Road (from Hoopers to the Kings Arms roundabout)
8.30am until 10am
Knutsford Road 9am until 10.30am
B5085 Knutsford Rd 9.15am until 11am
Newton Hall Lane 9.20am until 11.30am
Burleyhurst Lane to Morley Green Road junction 9.25am until 11.30am
Morley Green Road junction along Mobberley Road to the Altrincham Road junction 8am until 12noon (finish area).
First aid will be available along the route and marshals will be on the course looking for signs of anyone in distress. If you come across anyone injured or in distress please report it to the nearest marshal who will be in contact with our event team and our first aid providers. First aid is also available at the start and finish area.
Please also fill in your personal details section on the rear of your race number. This greatly assists the medical staff, should you require first aid or medical treatment.
Presentation of the prizes will take place at the Race HQ inside the Leisure Centre as early as possible but not before 11:30am. The winning male and female will receive a Tag Heuer Watch. Prizes will be awarded to the top five male and female runners and the top three wheelchair racers. We then have additional prizes in all main runner age group categories for every five years from V35 up to V75. Any vets in the first five finishers of the whole race will receive the top five race prize and then the next Vet from that category will receive the relevant Vet prize. A course record bonus of £500 is available for the first male or female who comes inside of our course records. These are 29.55 male and 34.27 female and are by gun time.
If you have any queries before the day please contact our head office on 01625 529 000 or email [email protected]

The P.A. unit will be making regular announcements prior to the race start at 9:30am.
Due to our significant up front costs which are virtually the same regardless of the event taking place, in the event of race cancellation due to severe weather or an emergency situation, we are sadly not able to offer any refunds. For the same reasons, if you are now unable to take part we do not offer any refunds or deferrals, you can however transfer your entry up until Friday 24th November. Please note that if you make a transfer the person who you transfer your entry to must wear your number.
Keep an eye on our website and Facebook if the weather is looking unseasonably severe in the build up to race day.
Don’t forget to put Sunday 1st July 2018 in your diary when we will be celebrating the third edition of our Alderley Edge Bypass 10k event.
