CORONAVIRUS
Whilst we are happily out of COVID restrictions, please be assured we still have some policies in place in order to minimise the risk and keep everyone safe.

If you have any questions that are not answered within the booklet, please contact us via email run@runnorthwest.co.uk

  • Only use authorised stiles, no climbing over walls or non-access gates.
  • Please be aware that livestock will be in the fields to the south of the estate and around Norcliffe Hall. This livestock will not be directly on the course.
  • Respect other visitors on the public rights of way.

 TRAVEL TO THE RACE

Event Location: Quarry Bank, National Trust. SK9 4LA.
Race HQ  - The Courtyard at Quarry Bank

Car and parking facilities
Please do not park in or blocking driveways/narrow roads and instead use the main Quarry Bank car park. There is ample FREE parking within the main car park and once parked, please make your way down to the main courtyard at Quarry Bank, next to the mill.

Bike
There are bike storage areas at Quarry Bank, National Trust, SK9 4LA.

Public Transport
The closest train stations/tram stop (on foot) to Race HQ is Styal (0.5 miles) and Wilmslow (1.9 miles).

COURSE
The route is a 1-lap course and approximately 4.5-miles long and consists of undulating terrain, starting and finishing in the main courtyard at Quarry Bank.

After a short hill at the start, the first 1/3 of the course proceeds along country lanes before running adjacent to the runway at Manchester airport on gravel paths for about half a mile. The route then enters the historical Styal woods, passing through a mixture of woodland paths, gravel paths, as well as several sets of steps up and down (make sure you save some energy in the legs for those!). The course will then take you over bridges as you cross beautiful streams, before exiting the woods on a sharp climb and heading towards to the finish back at the Courtyard.

Road or trail shoes are suitable for the course and we would particularly advise trail shoes if the days leading up to the race have been extremely wet. This is a highly varied course and participants should be careful due to many different trip hazards such as tree routes, steps, uneven ground etc.

TRANSFERS
If you can no longer make the race and need to transfer your entry to someone else you can do this via your original confirmation email or through your nifty entry log-in.  Transfers are free of charge and any monies transferring hands needs to be a direct agreement between the two parties.  Transfers will close at 11:59pm on Tuesday 3rd May. Please be very careful if buying or selling an entry on social media as sadly some scams do occur.

NUMBERS
Numbers must be attached to the front of your vest, please do not fold/cut/deface it in anyway. The timing chip is attached to the back of your number and is detected when you cross the start and the finish. Please do not run around the outside of the start/finish mat area or your time will not be recorded.

Please also take the time to fill in your emergency contact details on the reverse of the number prior to running, in the unfortunate event of an emergency, these can help medics to treat you swiftly and appropriately.

Please DO NOT run is someone else’s number as it is against UKA rules, it can cause problems with the results and could also cause a lot of distress should there be an incident and the wrong family are contacted.

TOILETS
Toilets are available in the Quarry Bank courtyard.

MUSIC PLAYERS/HEADPHONES
The use of personal music players or headphones during the race is not permitted, as this can restrict your ability to hear safety instructions from marshals or unexpected events.

 MEDICAL SERVICES
First aid is situated at the start/finish and out on the course. Should you feel unwell during the race please let your nearest marshal know so we can arrange for medics to get to you as soon as possible. If you come across anyone injured or in distress, please report it to the nearest marshal who will be in contact with our event team and our first aid providers.

ECO WATER 🥤
In a conscious effort to reduce our carbon footprint, we have introduced a bring your own water bottle (pre-filled) to place at the finish area for the end of the race.  The finish area is the same point as the start and the tables will be clearly labelled. Completely optional, but every person who brings their own bottle of water is helping to save the planet one small step at a time.

Bottled water will be provided, as usual, for anyone who is unable bring their own. We do use a responsible supplier for our water (as well as being ZERO to landfill), their bottles are made out of recycled plastic and are recyclable. If you take your bottle home with you then please add it to your recycling or leave it at the marked bins near the finish.

BAG DROP
Where possible please leave your belongings in your cars. We have a limited bag drop for anyone cycling or coming by public transport to the race.

PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEOGRAPHY
Our race day pictures will be free to download from the Quarry Bank Events Page.  Our videographer will be with us on the day to capture an event video which will be uploaded to our social media platforms.

As soon as the pictures and videos are available we will post an update on our social media pages. Do bear with us as there will be lots to edit, they are usually available the day after the race.
