TRAVEL TO THE RACE
Event location - Lyme Park, Disley, Stockport, SK12 2NR
Race HQ - outside the Timber Yard.
Car and Parking facilities
Where possible, please car share to ease congestion, traffic and to look after the environment.
Please head to the main car park where marshals will be on hand to guide you into the next available space. There is ample free parking and once parked, you can head up to the race HQ at the Timber Yard or to the start at Lyme Hall. These 2 locations are only 150 metres apart.
PLEASE ARRIVE IN PLENTY OF TIME TO AVOID DELAYS & CONGESTION AS THE A6 CAN BE VERY BUSY AT THAT TIME OF THE EVENING.
Bike
Lyme Park has bike storage facilities available which are adjacent to the car park.
Public Transport
Disley Train Station is half a mile from the entrance to Lyme Park. Please check the National Rail website for up to date train times.
There is a bus service which stops on the A6 and runs from Manchester Airport to Buxton. If travelling by bus, please check the Transport for Greater Manchester website for up to date bus schedules.
COURSE
The race is a 1-lap course within the National Trust grounds of Lyme Park and consists of approximately 10K of running, with 272 metres of elevation gain. A tougher and longer trail race than our other events with some great elevation and a fully marked and marshalled course, so no navigation required!
The course starts outside the impressive entrance to the main hall and is an undulating 10K with a mixture of grass, trail and road running. Enjoy the sights of Lyme Park and look out for the deer and cattle along the way!
The first mile which is mainly downhill, is followed by a short sharp climb past the infamous Cage with amazing views over Manchester. A one mile flatter section then leads to the second climb which takes you to the race summit and into the woods past The Lantern building.
The second half of the course involves more gentle undulations and downhill sections before descending to the finish at the Timber Yard (only a 100m from the start). Here you will be awarded with one of our iconic medals, this time taking inspiration from Lyme Hall.
At the finish, you will also find a great outdoor area, with lots of tables, to relax and enjoy the atmosphere.
The course is suitable for all abilities and a perfect introduction to a more hilly trail experience for beginners. We would recommend trail shoes although road shoes may also be sufficient depending on the weather in the build up.
NUMBERS
Numbers must be attached to the front of your vest, please do not fold/cut/deface it in anyway. The timing chip is attached to the back of your number and is detected when you cross the start and the finish. Please do not run around the outside of the start/finish mat area or your time will not be recorded.
Please also take the time to fill in your emergency contact details on the reverse of the number prior to running, in the unfortunate event of an emergency, these can help medics to treat you swiftly and appropriately.
Please DO NOT run in someone else’s number as it is against UKA rules, it can cause problems with the results and could also cause a lot of distress should there be an incident and the wrong family are contacted.
TOILETS
There will be ample free toilets available within Lyme Park. Please note these are split between the toilets at the Timber Yard (Race HQ) and those inside Lyme Hall (Race Start). These locations are 200 metres apart.
REFRESHMENTS
The Timber Yard (next to the finish line) has plenty of outdoor seating available where you can purchase and enjoy a variety of drinks, hot food and snacks for the duration of the evening.
MUSIC PLAYERS/HEADPHONES
The use of personal music players or headphones during the race is discouraged, as this can restrict your ability to hear safety instructions from marshals or unexpected events.
MEDICAL SERVICES
First aid is situated at the start/finish and out on the course. Should you feel unwell during the race please let your nearest marshal know so we can arrange for medics to get to you as soon as possible. If you come across anyone injured or in distress, please report it to the nearest marshal who will be in contact with our event team and our first aid providers.
ECO WATER 🥤🌍
In a conscious effort to reduce our carbon footprint, we have introduced a bring your own water bottle (pre-filled) to place at the finish area for the end of the race. A bottle drop table will be set up for these next to the finish, at the Timber Yard (next to registration). Completely optional, but every person who brings their own bottle of water is helping to save the planet one small step at a time. You are also welcome to bring a water bottle that can be carried around the course with you, instead of stopping at the halfway water station.
Bottled water will be provided, as usual, for anyone who is unable bring their own. We do use a responsible supplier for our water (as well as being ZERO to landfill), their bottles are made out of recycled plastic and are fully recyclable.
If you use the water provided by us, please make sure to recycle this bottle, either at home or at the marked bins near the finish. Whilst we do check for litter, may we also ask that no bottles are dropped along the course. It is important to protect and preserve this beautiful National Trust property.
RUN NORTH WEST POP-UP SHOP
Located at both the start and finish, the Run North West store team will be there with a pop-up shop for all your running essentials! This will include runner belts, gels, bars, race clips, sunglasses and more. Don't forget to use your 15% race discount!
BAG DROP
Where possible please leave your belongings in your cars. We have a limited bag drop for anyone cycling or coming by public transport to the race.
