Run North West is delighted to offer this unique new 5 mile (approx 8k) road race on a traffic free Alderley Edge By Pass (UKA Licensed). This is an amazing opportunity to run the Alderley Edge By pass whilst closed to all traffic. Running 2.5 straight miles with no real corners on smooth tarmac away from Wilmslow and then turning back and running back on the same route. With only gentle undulation, this promises fast times for club and fun runners alike with PB potential. Run North West has been created to offer club and fun runners the chance to run new and varied races answering the demand for more choice in mass participation races whilst offering the very best in on the day experience. Five miles is a perfect next step for newer or occasional runners who have run 5k park runs plus the race offers the ideal motivation to get fit for the summer.
Message from the Race Director Andrew Whittingham
With the continued growth in participants at road races and as a long time runner and member of Wilmslow Running Club, this race is the culmination of an ambition to offer quality road races. By taking our passion for running and creating events which match our own expectations having taken part in hundreds of races over the years. The Alderley Edge By Pass 5 is the first in a series of interesting races. Working with local charity partners we will offer races which help in motivating you to participate more in running and exercise whilst also raising money for worthy causes. I also aim to make the races equally suitable and welcoming for elite runners and those who are new to the sport. I would encourage early entry through our entry partner nifty entries as races now fill up quickly leaving many potential participants disappointed. The Bypass 5 was held in 2010 prior to the opening of the road and was a huge success. The first male was Ryan Holroyd in 26.26 and the first female was Christine Howard in 29.50. We hope to recreate the amazing atmosphere of this day and make the Bypass 5 an annual event.
As well as a unique venue, we also offer you • Full chip timing integrated into your race number • Instant results onto your smart phones • A quality Run the Alderley Bypass 5 T Shirt and goody bag • Secure parking facilities within 1/4 mile of the start at the Wilmslow end of the bypass • On site Massage facilities provided by Wilmslow Physio • Celebrity appearance for the race start and prize giving • A half way water station plus water and bananas at the finish • The opportunity to run for East Cheshire Hospice & raise money • Professional post-race images available • Professional start & finish area • Race organised by experienced runners.
Run North West was set up early in 2016 by Andrew Whittingham to meet the increasing demand for quality running races. Andrew has been a club runner for over twenty years and has run for Wilmslow Running Club since 2010. As a previous member of Buxton AC, Andrew was the Race Director of the Buxton Half Marathon in the late 1990s . By combining the experience of entering hundreds of races with a successful business career, Andrew and his team will aim to offer the very best in race experiences. Run North West has partnered with Events Unplugged to co-ordinate the required attention to detail and therefore deliver memorable races which satisfy elite, club and occasional runners. Andrew is also calling upon the kind help of other runners, local business and recreational clubs to the mutual benefit of all in helping the community to a more active lifestyle. Run North West will also commit to raise funds for charity at every race plus sponsor grass roots athletics in the North West. The first Run North West event is the Run the bypass 5 which will take place annually in early July on a specially closed Alderley Edge bypass. Further races will be announced through this website and our social media.
